(Lubavitch.com/LNS) Chabad’s Rabbi Mendel Samama joined 47 European ambassadors at the Council of Europe to mark  Holocaust Remembrance Day, January 27.

Seated near Terry Davis, Secretary General of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, France, Rabbi Samama addressed the Council. He urged the ambassadors to work towards change by action.

Couching his words in Chasidic terms, Rabbi Samama employed classic mystical categories of space, time and soul.

"We need to apply our efforts towards improving this world by ensuring that our activities are manifest in pragmatic ways—time and place—so that souls are affected positively," he explained.

"That's why it’s important to have a museum about Jewish heritage and culture. And it’s important to have a  Holocaust Remembrance Day. But above all, we need to educate the next generation to ensure that our message is engraved in the hearts and souls of every individual."

Rabbi Samama, who serves as the Rabbi for the Council of Europe, enjoys a warm friendship with many of the Council’s ambassadors. His father is senior Chabad representative to Strasbourg, home of the European Parliament and the Council of Europe.
