Chabad Rabbi Nominated for UJC Hero of the Year

By , Houston, Texas

(lubavitch.com) Rabbi Chaim Lazaroff, Chabad representative of Houston Texas, was nominated for Jewish Community Hero of the Year.

Sponsored by the UJC, the Hero of the Year will be chosen by a panel of judges from among 10 seminfinalists based on popular, public vote, to be announced at the UJC General Assembly this November. The hero receives $25,000 to further his or her community work. Four additional honorees will be announced as well.

“Rabbi Chaim is a hero in the Houston Jewish community that many people look up to,” wrote the nominator on the UJC website.

"Just when I think, I am too tired, I am too poor to do anything he encourages me… At Rabbi Chaim's we are Jews with no labels. We are far from Orthodox practices, yet Rabbi never looks down on us or judges us. He always welcomes us and makes us feel right at home."

The nominator pointed to Rabbi Lazaroff’s work during last year’s hurricane IKE, his work with prison inmates and the general dedication that both he and his wife, Chani Lazaroff, have for Houston’s community.

Readers can vote here for Rabbi Chaim, and may do so as often as once a day:
