A Children’s Festival

LUBAVITCH HEADQUARTERS, NY

Shavuot, The Feast of Weeks, celebrates harvest season in Israel and the giving of the Ten Commandments.

Jewish children have a big stake in the holiday of Shavuot. According to tradition, they were the guarantors to secure the Divine gift of the Torah to the Jews.

That’s a serious load for the little ones, and one they carry proudly with a bit of help. In a custom established by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, of righteous memory, Jewish children–even the infants–ought to be present in the synagogue during the reading of the Ten Commandments.

Chabad centers and schools around the world are helping children prepare for Shavuot. Ice-cream parties and other incentives are encouraging them to come to the synagogue on Shavuot and assert their rightful roles as links in the chain of Jewish tradition.
