The sudden passing Tuesday night of Mrs. Rashi Minkowicz, a young mother of eight, and Chabad representative, has sent a wave of shock and sorrow throughout the Jewish community.
She was 37 years old and in good health.
Rashi was director of Chabad activities in Alpharetta, Georgia, (Chabad of North Fulton) with her husband, Rabbi Hirshy Minkowicz since 1998.
Daughter of Rabbi Chaim Meir and Sarah Lieberman of Crown Heights, Rashi was a beloved Shlucha. Together with her husband she was active in leading the expanding Jewish communities of Alpharetta, Cumming, Johns Creek, Milton, Roswell, Forsyth and Duluth.
Rashi was responsible for the successful local Gan Israel summer camp where counselors and campers were drawn to her lively, warm personality; she led adult education classes, women’s programming, Mikvah, Hebrew School and youth programs.
Rashi was gearing up for her Chabad of North Fulton’s Purim Night Live, and posted a note on her Facebook page, Tuesday 2:31 PM, when she reminded community members: “Torah & Tea tomorrow – The “Hamantash Edition.” Can wait to see you all.”
The funeral will take place in New York on Thursday morning, at Shomrei Hadas Chapels in Brooklyn, NY at 9:00 am. It will pass by Lubavitch World Headquarters, 770 Eastern Parkway at 10:45 am as it makes its way to the Chabad Old Montefiore Cemetery in Queens.
