In Memoriam: Mrs. Sarah (Charlotte) Rohr

Jerusalem, Israel

Chabad-Lubavitch Shluchim worldwide mourn the passing of Mrs. Sarah (Charlotte) Rohr.

Mrs. Rohr, matriarch of the illustrious Rohr Family, and beloved wife of Mr. Sami (Shmuel) Rohr, nurtured a family whose name is today synonymous with the noblest virtues of chesed and Jewish philanthropy.

Mrs. Rohr was laid to rest at Mt. of Olives in Jerusalem, on Wednesday morning.

Born in Munkazc, Hungary to Reb Yekusiel Yehuda and Leah Kastner, Charlotte was a young woman when her parents and three of her siblings perished in the Holocaust. Surviving with three brothers and a sister, she made her way to Chile, where she met and married her husband.

The couple first lived in Bogota, Colombia, and then moved to Bal Harbour, Florida.

Close friends talked of Mrs. Rohr's gracious and regal bearing, and the warmth and compassion she exuded.  A steadfast support and inspiration to her family, she cultivated Torah values, a love for yiddishkeit and Ahavat Yisrael in her home.

"Mrs. Rohr was an exceptionally dignified woman," said Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky, a close personal friend of the family, and Vice Chairman of the Chabad-Lubavitch educational division. "She imbued her children with a deep sense of responsibility for Jewish continuity, and together with her husband and family, has made Jewish life blossom around the world."

The Rohr Family's sponsorship of Chabad centers in communities and on campuses worldwide and a host of educational programs and services, continues to effect a perceptible change in Jewish education, Jewish literacy and Jewish identity.

Mrs. Rohr is survived by her husband, her children,  George and Pamela Rohr, Evelyn and Dr. Shmuel Katz, Lillian and Moris (Moshe) Tabicinic, and their children and grandchildren.

Her legacy will continue to inspire Chabad-Lubavitch Shluchim, and her memory will be dearly cherished by the world Chabad-Lubavitch movement.
