Inside the Chabad center in Pleasanton last weekend, as the sun set on Shabbat, Sheva Rice helped her husband light a Havdalah candle and pass spices around the table for sniffing. “You should have the Pashtuns smell it, too!” she said.

Characters of all ages celebrated the Jewish Holiday of Purim together at Chabad’s recent community “Superhero” Purim Party at the American Legion Banquet Hall in Monroe.

After discussing Pollack’s vision of the proposed playground, Rabbi Friedman was willing to help make this dream become a reality by not only donating money, but space for the playground: south of the building where the The Chabad of Coral Springs is located.

Besides learning, socializing with other students is integral to the Sinai Scholars program. “We try to get everyone in the class to know each other,” Greenbaum said. Each semester students in the class take a field trip together, whether to Lakewood to visit Jewish establishments or Crown Heights, Brooklyn, to participate in Chabad’s annual Shabbaton of college students.

For the first time, Jewish students at Drexel will be hosting a unique and special celebratory ceremony on March 11 as a Torah scroll – Judaism’s most sacred text – will be completed by Chabad and put to use in religious services. The Torah was donated by Yakir Gola and Rafael Ilishayev, who started the delivery startup goPuff when they were just Juniors at Drexel University.

Last weekend, I experienced what life would be like without these politically charged shells. I spent three days at Cteen’s 10th international Shabbaton with over 2,500 high schoolers from all over the world.

This one-night-only family-friendly restaurant was a fund-raiser for the Joanne Galler Rubin Friendship Circle, which is based at Chabad House of Toledo. The program pairs Jewish children and young adults who have special needs with teen-aged volunteer buddies for projects like bowling, art, and cooking.

“We called ourselves the Jew Crew,” she said. “I saw it as a wonderful opportunity to help someone and I did just that and it felt really good.” 

The Chabad of the Beaches and the Long Beach MLK Center hosted a unity concert Monday night in memory of the victims of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

To celebrate Purim, many Palm Beach County synagogues and temples have created a wide variety of events. such as carnivals, a comedy night, costume masquerade balls, a Purim interpretation of famous Broadway musicals and Purim in Africa celebrations, all to take place during and following Purim.

Seven survivors of the Parkland school shooting were among thousands of Jewish high school students who attended the annual conference of the Chabad movement’s youth group.
