Jewish students, scholars and laymen worldwide have just begun a new cycle of daily study in Maimonides’ Mishneh Torah and Sefer Hamitzvot. The tradition to complete the study of Maimonides’ magnum opus on Jewish law in the course of one year, by studying portions of it every day, was instituted by the Rebbe twenty-one years ago.
Celebrations were held worldwide marking the completion of several cycles of study of Maimonidean texts: twenty-one years of study of three chapters daily, and seven years of study of one chapter daily of Maimonides Mishne Torah. The celebrations also marked the completion of the twenty-first cycle of the daily study of Maimonides’s Sefer Hamitzvot.
One major celebration took place in Paris, where some 2,000 people gathered for a festive siyum-celebration, in which, traditionally, the study cycle is completed and immediately begun again.
