With profound grief and sadness, the world-wide Chabad-Lubavitch community mourns the passing of Mrs. Rivkie Barber on Friday, March 21. A Chabad-Lubavitch representative in Melbourne, Australia, Barber passed away after a brief illness. She was 49.
Born in Crown Heights to Rabbi Asher and Nechama Heber, she moved to Australia with her husband Rabbi Yankie Barber after he finished his post-rabbinic studies in Brooklyn.
In Melbourne, Barber taught at Yeshiva College of Melbourne, educating generations of students and strengthening their Jewish identities.
She is survived by her husband, Rabbi Yankie Barber and their children Perel Shmotkin – New York City, Chanie Biston – Parkland, Florida; Dovi Barber – Crown Heights, Shaina Barber, Leah Barber and Mendel Barber – Australia.
She is also survived by her parents, Rabbi Asher and Nechama Heber, and siblings, Mrs. Yaffie Begun – Sao Paulo, Brazil; Mrs. Brocha Chana Metzger – New York City; and Rabbi Noach Heber – New York City.
