Baruch Brandon Shapiro, whose family emigrated 15 years ago from Odessa, Ukraine celebrated his Aliyah to the Torah in honor of his Bar Mitzvah at Chabad of Great Neck., NY. During the event, his grandfather, Mr. Alexander Zalkind who grew up in Russia after WWII, told Rabbi Geisinsky that he had never celebrated his Bar Mitzvah. So the honors were doubled and Baruch’s grandfather also had an Aliyah and made the appropriate blessing on the Torah. Only moments later, Baruch’s dad, Mr. Garry Shapiro, said that he too never had an opportunity to celebrate his Bar Mitzvah. Three generations celebrated their Bar Mitzvahs, all in the course of an ordinary Thursday morning.
