Parents of Kidnapped Students Appeal to Jewish Women, Girls
Speaking for the parents of the three students kidnapped by terrorists in Israel, Ori Yifrach said, “We appeal to Chabad Shluchim in Israel and abroad to step up the campaign of Shabbat candle lighting, so that all Jewish women and girls light Shabbat candles in merit of the safe return of our kidnapped children.”
Yifrach, the father of one of the kidnapped students, noted that the two Shabbat candles are representative of the commandments to respectively, “remember” (zachor) and to “safeguard” (shamor) the Shabbat.
Rabbi Menachem Kutner, director of Chabad Terror Victims Project (CTVP) broadcast the request to intensify the campaign, launched by the Lubavitcher Rebbe in 1974
The parents asked that their sons should be remembered while kindling the Shabbat candles:
Yaakov Naftali Ben Rachel Devorah
Gilad Michael ben Bat Galim
Eyal ben Iris Teshura
