Students Take First Prize At Connecticut State Science Fair

Students at the Southern Connecticut Hebrew Academy were well represented at the 67th Annual Connecticut State Science Fair held March 10th-14th at Quinnipiac University.

Under the guidance of Mrs. Karen Howell, science teacher at the Chabad day school, 13 seventh and eighth grade students received awards for their outstanding science projects. Seventh grade team, Sarah and Mindel Yaffe, created a project on the Analysis of Moisture and Retention of Body Lotions and the Correlation to Microbial Growth,and  took first place prize in the Life Sciences team division. Students received trophies, prizes and recognition from the world of science.

Each year, students from 120 schools and fairs compete for the coveted 600 spots open at the science fair. $170,000 in prize money is won by finalists as well as opportunities to participate in national competitions. Students from grades 7 to 12 are invited to join and are required to complete the projects using their own imaginations and hard work. The projects and trophies of the thirteen students will be on display on April 30th along with all the projects from the students in the Hebrew Academy.
