Top This: Six Thousand Attend Chabad Chanukah Celebration

EKATERINBURG, RUSSIA

Will Chabad Shluchim top this one?Chabad representative to Ekaterinburg, Russia, Rabbi Zelig Ashkenazi, reported to Lubavitch.com that 6,000 people attended Chabad’s Chanukah event yesterday.

There was standing room only in the cavernous hall of the Uralochka Sports Palace. City Mayor Arkady Chernetsky with Rabbi Ashkenazi lit the shamash. Popular Israeli star and Broadway performer, Dudu Fisher, entertained the huge crowd with selections from his repertoire in English, Hebrew, Yidish, Italian and even in Russian. Joyous nostalgia swept over the audience.

“It was a miraculous event,” says Rabbi Ashkenazi who broke a record and raised the bar for high-turnouts at Chabad’s ever popular Chanukah events.

But Chabad Shluchim love a challenge. In this case the objective to publicize the miracle of Chanukah, so,the more the better.

What’ll the numbers be next year? Anyone?
