New Chabad Reps Arrive At Johns Hopkins

New Chabad representatives Rabbi Velvel and Chanie Gopin arrived to central Baltimore earlier this month, to service Jewish students and faculty members at Johns Hopkins University, and the greater Jewish community of Guilford and Roland Parks.

Founded in 1876 as the country’s first research university, Johns Hopkins is famous for its medical, engineering, and international diplomacy programs. Drawing highly competitive students from across the country, the university has 1,000 Jewish students.

The Gopins were appointed by Rabbi Shmuel Kaplan, Chabad regional director of greater Maryland, under the George Rohr Campus Initative. Working to enrich the Jewish experience of the university’s students and community members, the young couple began the new school semester with a focus on Shabbat hospitality and one-on-one study sessions.
