News Briefs: Peaceful Protests in Favor of Public Menorah
December 19, 2006
The citizens of Fort Collins, CO responded with a campaign of support when Rabbi Gorelick, director of the Chabad Jewish Center of Northern Colorado, was once again denied the right of displaying a menorah on city property.
Community leaders, including the Mayor of Fort Collins, have spoken out against the decision that Rabbi Gorelick’s lawyer, Nathan Lewin, insists violates the First Amendment. The New York Times reports that Jews and Non-Jews alike have lit menorahs in their windows as a symbol of solidarity and as a protest for what they deem a discriminatory and unfair decision.
