Tefillin At Auschwitz

One million Jews were killed in Auschwitz. This week, 8,000 came to participate in an annual remembrance event, March of the Living. Chabad rabbis and rabbinical students were there too, giving thousands the opportunity do a mitzvah. On the very ground that has come to represent its near-annihilation, thousands fulfilled the mitzvah of tefillin and recited the Shema–affirmative expressions of the eternal Jewish spirit.
