Chabad Representative to S. Petersburg Leads Community in Aid to City's Homeless

S. Petersburg, Russia

October 24, 2007

With statistics showing an astounding 54,000 homeless people living in

the streets of St. Petersburg, the city's Jewish community recently partnered

with the New Social Resolution, an activist organization that benefits

the homeless, to raise awareness and bring relief to thousands of the city's indigent

population.

Under the direction of Chabad Rabbi Menachem Mendel Pewzner, the

community raised funds which were used to purchase and distribute dozens of

pounds of fruit to the homeless of St. Petersburg.

The community also met in the Great Choral Synagogue to pray for the welfare of the city's homeless.
