Passover in Quito, Guayaquil, Banos, Montanita . . .

QUITO, ECUADOR -- (April 14, 2008)
C

C habad representatives to Ecuador, Rabbi Tomer and Rivka Rotem are expecting about 100 to join them at their Seder in Quito. The couple has been reaching out to the country’s Jewish population with distribution of matzah in Quito, Guayaquil, and other cities.

Passover Seders will also take place in Israeli owned hotels, in Baños, Montanita, and the Galápagos Islands, where Chabad is providing the hand-baked shmura matzah for the Seders, with help from the Foreign Office.

Israeli ambassador to Ecuador, Mr. Eyal Sela and his wife are taking an active role in Chabad’s outreach activities.

The Rotems have been serving Ecuador’s Jewish life since their arrival there four years ago. Some 400 Jewish families benefit from Chabad’s activities there, and, says Rabbi Rotem, “With G-d’s help we will soon be able to erect a proper building that would be able to centralize and concentrate the activities of Chabad of Ecuador. We also plan to build the first and only kosher mikvah in the country.”
