(lubavitch.com) Chabad-Lubavitch representative in Beijing, Rabbi Shimon Freundlich, blessed the Israeli Olympic team Monday, with success and safety as he hung mezuzot on all the apartments in the Olympic Village where the Israeli athletes and delegation will be staying.
The event was attended by the president and CEO of the Israeli National Olympic Committee and members of the Israeli Olympic team as well as the Israeli Ambassador to Beijing, Amos Nadai and his Deputy D.J. Schneeweiss, who worked with Rabbi Freundlich to ensure that a rabbi would be on hand at all times in the Olympic Village.
Rabbi Freundlich will be available for the duration of the Olympics at the new Bet Knesset (Synagogue) built in the Olympic Village for the benefit of Jewish delegates and athletes.
Israel's President Shimon Peres, who is scheduled to be in China for the opening of the Olympics, will be joined by Rabbi Freundlich at a reading of the Book of Lamentations on Saturday night, the eve of Tisha b'Av, the ninth day of Av, which is observed as a day of mourning, commemorating the destructions of the First and Second Temples in Jerusalem.
Kosher consumers at the Olympics will have a full menu of kosher cuisine at Dini's Kosher Restaurant, situated near the American Embassy. The restaurant, which has large capacity seating, will also deliver vacuum packed meals to hotels in Beijing and beyond.
