(lubavitch.com) A change in Israel's Tal Law now includes Chabad-Lubavitch among the social service agencies in Israel where high school graduates may fulfill their mandatory National Service.

Yeshiva students volunteering with Chabad’s humanitarian and social services programs will satisfy their National Service requirements. The Tal Law, passed in Israel in 2003 but only fully implemented this year was designed for students who for religious or other reasons do not want to serve in the army upon completion of their yeshiva studies.

Rabbi Menachem Brod speaking on behalf of Chabad noted that the program will benefit non-Chabad affiliated who would be encouraged to participate in many of Chabad's humanitarian programs that reach Jews the length of Israel.
