Chabad at Cannes Film Festival

Cannes, France

May 21, 2009

(lubavitch.com) Chabad’s mitzvah-smart mobile was a sight in contrasts at last week’s Cannes Film Festival. During the week-long event, the city’s normal population numbers of 70,000 swells to 200,000. Many were pleased to meet up with Chabad, and welcomed the offer to do a mitzvah and take a few minutes to reflect amid the endless partying.

“We reached thousands of Jews during the week,” said Rabbi Mendel Matusof, speaking about the Chabad representatives who worked the city, reaching Jewish guests with a variety of opportunities to connect spiritually.

Shabbat dinner, organized in conjunction with Rabbi Mendel Schwartz from the Chai Center in L.A. and producer Max Gottleib, drew some 100 guests.

“Although many less attended the Festival this year because of the economy, our Shabbos had as many people as last year,” said Rabbi Schwartz.
