Chabad of Running Springs Approved for $1 Million Solar Project

(lubavitch.com) A $1 million allocation requested by Congressman Jerry Lewis (R-Redlands) for a solar power project at Chabad-Lubavitch of California's Running Springs Retreat Center, was approved Friday, as part of the Fiscal Year 20010 appropriations bill.

 

The allocation is part of a $33.3 billion spending program for the Department of Energy and federal water agencies, approved by the House of Representatives. It includes allocations for studies on how to uncover new local water supplies around Lake Arrowhead, and water conservation behind the Seven Oaks Dam, as well as to reduce energy consumption in the Inland Empire.

 

The funding approved for Chabad of Running Springs will reduce energy consumption by approximately 624,000 kilowatt hours, through the use of the solar panels.

 

The non-profit camp serves some 10,000 children a year, many from lower-income families. It has also served as an important staging area for firefighters during mountain wildfires.
