New Torah for Chabad of Central Cascades

By , Issaquah, WA

(lubavitch.com) On Sunday, September 13, 2009, Chabad of Central Cascades welcomed a new Torah scroll. Hundreds of the Jewish community residents carrying torches danced through the streets. A decorated truck led the procession with Klezmer musicians playing lively music.

What began five years ago in a quiet living room is now a vibrant community center. It is a dream come true.

In the summer of 2005, Rabbi Shalom Dovber (Berry) and Nechama Farkash arrived in Central Cascades. Everyone they asked told them their mission to build a Jewish community is unrealistic.

Five years later, with the generous help of the community, Mr. Mendel and Chana Fischer, N.Y, and R. Shalom Ber and Hannah Lapidus Buenos Aires, Argentina, community members joined in the celebration, with the new Torah yet another step in the growth of this community.
