Founder of Chabad Institutions in Canada, 94

(lubavitch.com) Rabbi Moses E. Gerlitsky, one of the founders of the Rabbinical College of Canada and Chabad in Canada passed away Sunday April 4, 2010 in Montreal, at age of 94. 

Born in Otwock, Poland, 1931, he lost his entire family during the Holocaust.  Rabbi Gerlitsky was saved through Japanese diplomat Chiune Sugihara. He was then sent from Shanghai as an emissary by the previous Lubavitcher Rebbe to Montreal.

Rabbi Gerlitsky was the husband of the late Chana Etka Gerlitsky. He is survived by 8 children and over 300 grandchildren and great grandchildren, among them rabbinical and Jewish community leaders around the world.
