Regional Director of Chabad of Illinois, Daniel Moscowitz, 59

Rabbi Daniel Moscowitz, Regional Director of the Lubavitch Chabad of Illinois and a member of the Executive Committee of Merkos, the educational division of Chabad-Lubavitch, and a member of the Executive Vaad of the Kinus HaShluchim, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Adar II 2, 5774.
He was 59.
The Chicago Jewish community, the broader Chabad-Lubavitch community, colleagues and family have received the news of his sudden, untimely passing with great sadness.   
Rabbi Moscowitz failed to regain consciousness following routine surgery he underwent on Tuesday.  
The Chicago-born rabbi led the city’s Chabad community since 1977. Under his leadership as head Chabad representative to the state, Chabad of Illinois established some 37 new institutions around the state.
Rabbi Moscowitz is survived by his wife, Mrs. Esther Rochel Moscowitz, their children Mrs. Sterna Sarah Newman – Crown Heights; Rabbi Meir Shimon Moscowitz – Northbrook, IL; Rabbi Yosef Shmuel Moscowitz – Bucktown, IL; Rabbi Yehoshua Zelik Moscowitz – Northbrook, IL; Mrs. Chana Teldon – Northbrook, IL; Mrs. Rivka Sternberg – Montreal, Canada; Mrs. Chava Kagen – Chicago, IL; Rabbi Leibel Moscowitz – Chicago, IL; and Mrs. Chaya Mushka Hecht – Brooklyn, NY; and grandchildren.
He is also survived by his parents, Rabbi Efraim and Tzivia Moscowitz.
The funeral will take place at Congregation Bnai Ruven in Chicago on Wednesday, 8:00 AM. Rabbi Moscowitz will be laid to rest, at his request, at the Lubavitch section of the Waldheim Cemetery in Forest Park, IL.
