Cyprus Chabad Dedicates Fourth Location in Limassol

By , Limassol, Cyprus

Chabad of Cyprus dedicated a forth location in the country, this one in Limassol. The city sits on the southern coast of Cyprus, is the second to the largest in the country and with the largest port it is the country’s financial hub. Until now, weekly activities took place in rented locations. The permanent location will give the city’s business community and summer tourists a welcome boost.

“Since our arrival in 2003,” says Rabbi Zeev Raskin, co-director of Chabad-Lubavitch of Cyprus, together with his wife Shaindel, “Limassol’s Jewish business community, native born Jews and tourists have grown considerably. Now the time has come for some much needed Jewish infrastructure.”

With the support of Pinchas Patrakhachvily, the new building will have available kosher food, a synagogue, Torah classes and communal Shabbat meals.

The new building was named in memory of the Israel Defense Force soldiers who were killed during Operation Protective Edge. Michael Harari, Israeli ambassador to Cyprus, told the crowd about the importance of the Chabad presence in the country.

“Our hope is to reach every Jew with a smile,” says Shaindel Raskin, “and a warm and loving message that we are here to help them in both material and spiritual matters.”
