It was football Thursday at A&M University, a rare occasion, when most of the games are on Saturday. Chabad at the university together with the Sigma Alpha Mu “Sammy’s” Fraternity, staged a tailgate outside of the stadium.

Garnished with all one needs for the occasion, two fried turkeys, another two smoked and smoked brisket, the crowd celebrated Thanksgiving with kosher food.

In itself enough of a happy occasion to celebrate, another event was taking place as the tailgate was getting started that called for celebration as well: the engagement of Kenny Abitbol, a senior, and member of the Corps of Cadets to Miranda Hurwitz, a student at FIT in New York. Both are active in Chabad at their respective universities.

Abitbol proposed to Hurwitz dressed up in his Cadet uniform. Hurwitz accepted.

“It was a great celebration of Jewish pride, observance and with their engagement the future of Jewish nation,” says Rabbi Yossi Lazaroff, Chabad representative at the university with his wife Manya. “There is a lot to be thankful to G-d for.”
