Israeli Consul to Russia celebrates Gilad Shalit’s Release with Chabad

by Mordechai Lightstone - Moscow, Russian Federation

October 18, 2011

As word of Gilad Shalt’s release from Gaza broke Tuesday afternoon in Israel, Rabbis Yosef Lipsker, Elazar Kenig and Rabbi Yaakov Fridman, Chabad’s emissaries to the Russian Federation, joined members of the Israeli embassy in celebration. Arriving at the courtyard of the embassy in Moscow, they set up a portable sukkah.

Members of Israel’s diplomatic corps took their turn with the mitzvah of lulav, and raised their glasses in a toast of l'chaim for Gilad’s safe return. Among those participating were the Israeli Consul, members of the military attache and the embassy’s security personnel.

Rabbi Fridman invited everyone for the upcoming holiday of Simchat Torah at the Marina Ruscha Synagogue.
