14 Kislev, 1928: Marriage of the Rebbe and Rebbetzin

14 Kislev, 1928: Marriage of the Rebbe and Rebbetzin

It was on today’s Hebrew date in November of 1928 that the marriage of the Rebbe and Rebbetzin, Menachem Mendel and Chaya Mushka Schneerson, took place in Lubavitch Yeshiva of Warsaw, Poland. Although the Rebbe’s parents were unable to join, they celebrated the marriage from their home in Yekatrinislav (now Dnepropetrovsk).

When the previous Lubavitcher Rebbe included Rabbi Menachem Mendel’s name on his USSR exit visa in 1927, Soviet officials questioned him. “Why do you need to bring a son-in-law from Russia?” they asked. To which Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak replied, “A son-in-law like this, I won’t find anywhere else!”
