25 Years of Lighting the Menorah in Moscow’s Red Square
This Chanukah marks the twenty-fifth consecutive year that Chief Rabbi of Russia Rabbi Berl Lazar lit the menorah in Moscow’s Red Square. The event, which is held between the statues of Karl Marx, founder of communism, and the walls that encircle the red square, was broadcast to millions of viewers all over Russia. At the conclusion of the candle lighting ceremony, lively Chassidic music filled the air as Jews from all stripes and backgrounds came together in unity to thank Hashem for the miracles and wonders that He does for us, “Bayamim ha’hem ubizman hazeh—In those days, and in these times.”
